WHERE TO INJECT: Humulin N is meant to be given only as a subcutaneous injection. You shouldn’t inject the medication into a muscle or directly into a vein. If you do, your body may not absorb Humulin N. These incorrect injections may also cause side effects such as changes in blood sugar levels.
Be sure to use one of the following body sites when you inject Humulin N: belly, thighs, upper arms and buttocks. It’s recommended that you rotate your injection sites. This means using a different site for each dose. Doing so may help you avoid injection site reactions.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF HUMULIN N?
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a frequent side effect of Humulin N (insulin). Symptoms of low blood sugar may include: headache, nausea, hunger, confusion, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremor, trouble concentrating, confusion, or seizure (convulsions).
Other side effects of Humulin N include:
injection site reactions (pain, redness, irritation). Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Humulin including signs of low potassium level in the blood (such as muscle cramps, weakness, irregular heartbeat) Many drugs can affect your blood sugar levels, making it more difficult to control your blood sugar. Before you start, stop, or change any medication, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about how the medication may affect your blood sugar. Check your blood sugar regularly as directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor about the results and of any symptoms of high or low blood sugar.
