WHAT IS BENICAR HCT?
Benicar HCT (olmesartan / hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination medication that contains two drugs, olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks a chemical that causes blood vessels to tighten. When this chemical is blocked blood vessels relax, lowering blood pressure and allowing more blood and oxygen to get to your heart and other organs.
Olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide combination is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. Lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

USES
This medication is used to treat hypertension (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure aids in the prevention of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney disorders. This drug comprises two active ingredients: olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
Olmesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that acts by relaxing blood arteries, allowing blood to flow more freely. Hydrochlorothiazide is a “water pill” (diuretic) that encourages you to produce more urine, allowing your body to rid itself of excess salt and water.
BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICATION
You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to hydrochlorothiazide or Olmesartan, or if you are unable to urinate. If you have diabetes, do not use Benicar HCT together with any medication that contains aliskiren (a blood pressure medicine). You may also need to avoid taking Benicar HCT with aliskiren if you have kidney disease.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
Kidney disease; liver disease; congestive heart failure; glaucoma; low or high levels of potassium in your blood; asthma or allergies; high cholesterol or triglyceride levels; gout; lupus; diabetes; or an allergy to penicillin or sulfa drugs.
Do not use it if you are pregnant. Stop using the medicine and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Olmesartan can cause injury or death to the unborn baby if you take the medicine during your second or third trimester. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine.
HOW TO USE BENICAR HCT
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. If this medication causes you to urinate more frequently, it is best to take it at least 4 hours before your bedtime to prevent having to get up to urinate. If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine, colesevelam or colestipol), take this product at least 4 hours before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, your blood pressure readings increase).

STORAGE
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
