Uses
Insulin lispro is used to manage high blood sugar in diabetics in conjunction with a suitable diet and exercise routine. Controlling high blood sugar levels can help prevent kidney disease, blindness, nerve problems, limb loss, and sexual function issues. Diabetes control may also reduce your chance of having a heart attack or stroke. Insulin lispro is a synthetic insulin that is identical to human insulin. It takes the place of the insulin that your body would normally produce. Insulin lispro begins to operate faster and lasts for a shorter period of time than ordinary insulin. It works by allowing blood sugar (glucose) to enter cells and be used for energy by your body. This medication is usually used with a medium- or long-acting insulin product. Insulin lispro may also be used with other oral diabetes medications (such as sulfonylureas like glyburide or glipizide).
Precautions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to insulin lispro or any other insulins (such as insulin lispro-aabc), or if you have any other allergies. Inactive chemicals in this product may cause allergic reactions or other complications. For more information, consult your pharmacist.
Side Effects
Injection site responses (pain, redness, irritation) and weight gain are possible. Inform your doctor or pharmacist right once if any of these side effects continue or worsen.
Interactions
Drug interactions might alter the way your prescriptions operate or put you at risk for dangerous adverse effects. This guide does not include every conceivable medication interaction. Maintain a list of all the products you use (including prescription and nonprescription medicines, as well as herbal supplements) and discuss it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or modify the dosage of any medications without first consulting your doctor.
Overdose
If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
Storage
