WHAT IS KEPPRA?
Keppra (levetiracetam) is an anticonvulsant and anti-epileptic medication.
Keppra is a prescription medication that is used to treat partial onset seizures, myoclonic seizures, and tonic-clonic seizures in patients who have epilepsy.
Even if you feel fine, do not discontinue taking Keppra without first consulting your doctor. If you suddenly stop using this prescription, you may experience an increase in seizures. You may need to use less and less of the drug before totally stopping it.
Levetiracetam is used to treat seizures (epilepsy). It belongs to a class of drugs known as anticonvulsants. Levetiracetam may decrease the number of seizures you have.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE KEPPRA?
Keppra should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Read all drug guides or instruction sheets and follow all guidelines on your prescription label. Your doctor may adjust your dose from time to time.
Keppra oral is taken by mouth, with or without food, at the same time each day.
KEPPRA SIDE EFFECTS
If you develop signs of an allergic response to Keppra (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction, seek medical attention right once (fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).
CALL YOUR DOCTOR AT ONCE IF YOU HAVE:
Confusion, hallucinations, excessive sleepiness, feeling very weak or weary; odd changes in mood or behavior (unusual risk-taking behavior, being irritated or chatty); confusion, hallucinations, extreme drowsiness, feeling very weak or fatigued;
loss of balance or coordination, difficulty walking or moving; a skin rash, no matter how little; easy bruising, unusual bleeding; or fever, chills, weakness, or other infection symptoms.
COMMON KEPPRA SIDE EFFECTS
dizziness, drowsiness, weariness, weakness; irritability or aggression; loss of appetite; stuffy nose; or infection.
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
