Purpose of Lustral
Sertraline is a type of antidepressant drug known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Sertraline works by increasing levels of a mood-enhancing chemical called serotonin in the brain.

The use of this drug to treat children with this condition has not been studied. Senior dose (from age 65)
Older people’s kidneys may not function as well as they used to. This may cause your body to process the drug more slowly. This allows more of the drug to stay in the body longer. This increases the risk of side effects. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose or another dosing schedule. This helps prevent excessive levels of this drug from building up in the body.
Lustral Side Effects
- Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or weak
- Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting), constipation or diarrhea, indigestion
- Headache
- Mood changes such as feeling anxious, nervous, or agitated. Feeling restless or shaky
- Dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, bad dreams, sore throat, tingling feelings, lack of concentration, eyesight problems, ringing noises, flushing, sweating, yawning, reduced sexual drive or ability, change in appetite, aches or pains, swallowing problems
