Purpose of Mysoline

Primidone, sold under various brand names, is a barbiturate drug used to treat partial-onset seizures, generalized seizures, and essential tremors. Taken orally. Common side effects include drowsiness, incoordination, nausea, and loss of appetite.

Mysoline Uses

Mysoline is used alone or with other drugs to control seizures. Controlling and reducing seizures to allow more normal daily activities, reduce the risk of harm from unconsciousness, and reduce the risk of potentially life-threatening conditions from frequently recurring seizures. This drug belongs to a class of drugs known as barbiturate anticonvulsants. Mysoline works by controlling the abnormal electrical activity in the brain that occurs during seizures.

How do you use Mysoline

Take this medicine with or without food, usually 3 to 4 times a day, or as directed by your doctor. Take it with food or milk if you have an upset stomach. Your doctor may tell you to start this medicine at bedtime with a low dose and gradually increase the dose to avoid side effects such as drowsiness or dizziness. When you start taking this medicine, your doctor may ask you to continue taking your previous medicine and gradually reduce the dose. Dosage is based on the medical condition, blood levels of primidone, use of other medications to treat seizures, and response to treatment. It may take several weeks to reach the optimal dose.

Mysoline Dosage

Days 1-3: 100-125 mg before bedtime

Days 4-6: 100-125 mg b.i.d

Days 7-9: 100-125 mg t.i.d

Day 10 to : 250 mg t.i.d

For most adults and their children over the age of 8, the usual maintenance dose is three to four Mysoline 250 mg tablets in divided doses (250 mg three times a day or four times a day). If necessary, the dose may be increased to 5-6 tablets of 250 mg daily, but the daily dose should be 500 mg

Mysoline Side Effects

• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Excitation
• Tiredness
• Headache
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Vomiting

If any of these effects last or get worse, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If you experience any unlikely but serious side effects, such as unsteady gait/clumsiness, decreased sexual performance/interest, or double vision, consult your doctor immediately.

Mysoline Storage

Store Mysoline at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
