WHAT IS PRILOSEC?
The proton pump inhibitor Prilosec (omeprazole) reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Prilosec can also be used in conjunction with antibiotics to treat a stomach ulcer caused by Helicobacter pylori infection (H. pylori).
Prilosec should not be used to relieve heartburn symptoms right away. Prilosec has been linked to the development of new or worsened lupus symptoms. If you develop joint discomfort and a skin rash on your face or arms that gets worse in the sun, see your doctor.
BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICINE
Heartburn can mimic early symptoms of a heart attack. Get emergency medical help if you have chest pain that spreads to your jaw or shoulder and you feel sweaty or light-headed.
YOU SHOULD NOT USE PRILOSEC IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO OMEPRAZOLE, OR IF:
You’re also allergic to omeprazole-containing medications including esomeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix, and others.
if you’ve ever had respiratory issues, kidney problems, or a severe allergic response after taking omeprazole; or if you’ve ever had breathing problems, renal problems, or a severe allergic reaction after taking omeprazole; or You also take antiretroviral drugs that contain rilpivirine (such as Complera, Edurant, Odefsey, Juluca).

swallowing difficulty or pain;
bloody or black stools, bloody or black vomit, or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
heartburn that has persisted for more than three months;

weight loss that isn’t explained;
stomach pain, nausea or vomiting; illness of the liver;
magnesium deficiency in the blood; or Low bone mineral density (osteoporosis (osteopenia).
HOW SHOULD I TAKE PRILOSEC?
Prilosec should be taken exactly as indicated on the label or as directed by your doctor. Read all drug guides or instruction sheets and follow all guidelines on your prescription label.
If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose is approaching, skip the missing dose. Take your next dose at your usual time. To catch up, do not increase the dose.

PRILOSEC SIDE EFFECTS
If you develop hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek emergency medical attention right away. If you have: Stop taking Prilosec and see your doctor right away if you have: severe stomach ache, watery or bloody diarrhea; new or unusual wrist, thigh, hip, or back pain; convulsions (seizures); Fever, rash, nausea, loss of appetite, joint discomfort, peeing less than normal, blood in urine, and weight gain are all symptoms of kidney difficulties.
