Purpose of Relpax

Relpax is thought to reduce swelling of the blood vessels surrounding the brain. This swelling is associated with migraine attack headaches. How do you use a Relpax

Take this medicine with or without food, as directed by your doctor, at the first sign of a migraine headache. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. If symptoms are only partially relieved, or if the headache recurs, repeat 2 hours after the first dose. For US products, do not exceed 80 milligrams in 24 hours. For Canadian products, manufacturers recommend up to 40 milligrams in 24 hours.

If you are at high risk for heart problems (see Warnings and Precautions section), your doctor may do a heart test before starting eletriptan. He/she may also order the first dose of this medicine at the office/clinic to monitor for serious side effects (such as chest pain). Please consult your doctor for details.

In controlled clinical trials, single doses of 20 mg and 40 mg were effective in the acute treatment of migraine in adults.
