Purpose of Risedronate Sodium
Risedronate (risedronate sodium) is in a class of drugs called bisphosphonates. Helps keep bones as strong as possible.
It helps if you have or are at risk for a condition called osteoporosis. This is where bones become weak and prone to fractures.

Risedronate is used in adults to treat a disorder that weakens the bones (Paget’s disease). This drug can help relieve bone pain and prevent long-term complications of the disease. Risedronate works by slowing bone loss to maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
How do you use Risedronate Sodium
To take as many medicines as possible and reduce the risk of damaging your esophagus, follow instructions carefully.
Take this medication by mouth after waking up and before the first food, drink, or other medication. Do not take it at bedtime or while sleeping.
Take this medicine with a full glass (6 to 8 ounces or 180 to 240 milliliters) of plain water. Do not take it with other drinks. Then, stay fully upright (sitting, standing, or walking) for at least 30 minutes, and lie down only after your first meal of the day. Wait at least 30 minutes after taking risedronate before eating or drinking anything other than plain water and before taking any other medication by mouth.
Risedronate Sodium Dosage
Also, the number of daily doses, intervals between doses, and duration of use depend on the medical problem for which the drug is being used depends on the strength of the medicine
For oral dosage forms (extended-release tablets):
Adults – 35 milligrams (mg) once weekly, immediately after breakfast.

This drug rarely causes irritation or ulceration of the stomach or esophagus. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these serious side effects occur:
- Heartburn
- Chest pain
- Difficulty
- Pain in swallowing
- Severe stomach
- Abdominal pain
- Black/tarry stools
- Vomit-like coffee grounds
However, if you develop symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as rash, itching/swelling (especially on the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
Risedronate Sodium Storage
Store the medicine in an airtight container at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
