Purpose of Tenormin

Atenolol is a beta-blocker used primarily to treat high blood pressure and heart-related chest pain. However, atenolol does not appear to improve mortality in hypertensive patients. Other uses include preventing migraines and treating certain arrhythmias.

Atenolol is used with or without other drugs to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems. This drug is also used to treat chest pain (angina pectoris) and improve survival after a heart attack. It works by blocking the effects of certain natural chemicals in the body on the heart and blood vessels, such as adrenaline. This effect lowers heart rate, blood pressure, and stress on the heart.

How do you use Tenormin

Take this medicine by mouth, usually 1 to 2 times a day, with or without food, as directed by your doctor.

Apple and orange juice may prevent the body from fully absorbing atenolol. It is best to avoid apple/orange juice within 4 hours of taking atenolol unless directed by your doctor or pharmacist. It’s the best.

Dosage depends on the medical condition and response to treatment.

Tenormin Dosage

The starting dose of Tenormin is 50 mg given as one tablet daily, either alone or in addition to diuretic therapy. The full effect of this dose is usually seen within 1-2 weeks. If the optimal response is not obtained, the dose should be increased to Tenormin 100 mg as one tablet daily. Increasing the dosage beyond 100mg per day is unlikely to provide further benefit.

To reduce the risk of getting dizzy or lightheaded, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position.

This medicine reduces blood flow to your hands and feet and you may feel cold. Smoking can enhance this effect. Dress warmly and avoid smoking.

Store Tenormin at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not place in direct sunlight.
