Purpose of Tivicay

Dolutegravir, marketed under the brand name Tivicay, is an antiretroviral drug used in combination with other drugs to treat HIV/AIDS. It can also be used as part of post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV infection after potential exposure. It is taken orally.

Tivicay Uses

Tivicay is used with other HIV drugs to control HIV infection. It reduces the amount of HIV in the body and makes the immune system work better. This reduces the chance of HIV complications (such as new infections and cancer) and improves the quality of life. Tivicay belongs to a group of drugs known as integrase inhibitors. Blocks the virus from growing and infecting more cells. Tivicay is not a cure for HIV infection. To reduce the risk of passing HIV infection to others, continue to take all HIV medications as directed by your doctor. During sexual activity, use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) as directed by your doctor. Do not share personal items (needles/syringes, toothbrushes, razors, etc.) that may have come in contact with blood or other bodily fluids.

How do you use Tivicay

Do not change Tivicay forms of this medicine without talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

 He should take this medicine by mouth, usually 1 to 2 times a day, with or without food, as directed by his doctor.

Take this medicine at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking sucralfate and products containing aluminum or magnesium (such as antacids, laxatives, and buffering agents). These products bind to his Tivicay and reduce its effectiveness.

The recommended dose of Tivicay is 50 mg orally once daily. When used concomitantly with other medications, Tivicay should be administered twice daily in this population.

Tivicay Side Effects

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects such as liver problems (kidney problems (e.g. changes in urine output), or mental/mood changes (e.g. depression, suicidal ideation).

Tivicay Storage

Store Tivicay in its original packaging to avoid moisture. Please close the bottle tightly. Do not remove the desiccant.
