Talks Weight Gain and Insulin

USA Script Helpers

Let’s talk Insulin. – What is insulin?

Insulin is a hormone in the body that is produced by our pancreas. Insulin assists our body in absorbing glucose from our bloodstream. Did you know without this natural hormone the glucose in our body cannot convert the cells needed into fuel? Causing our bodies low energy and those cells stay in the bloodstream. If our bodies cannot use the glucose in our bloodstreams that will then cause our bodies to develop high levels of glucose in our blood. Did you know that if left untreated this can lead to long term health problems which could have been avoided. These health problems include the following:

– Nerve damage
– Blindness
– Dizziness
– Loss of limbs

Talk to your doctor to see what options are best for you. The information in this article is based on public information meant to bring awareness topics such as this. Always speak to a licensed professional to get their medical advice. It’s your right to know.

Diabetic Patients With High Levels Of Blood
This is caused by their bodies not being able to produce a sustainable amount of insulin or enough insulin at all to maintain the required a safe blood sugar level. Diabetic type 1 individuals attend insulin therapy for these individuals to live as long as possible. The reason for this is because these individuals cannot produce insulin by themselves therefore need a man made insulin. As their bodies contain beta cells that confuses their bodies which leads to the insulin being destroyed by their immune system. However type 2 Diabetics are able to accept insulin. The difference between 1 and 2 is that 2 although their bodies accept the insulin their bodies are resistant. Therefore these individuals are able to manage this illness by a combination of healthy lifestyle such as healthy diet, physical activity and prescribed drugs. Should there come a day where type 2 diabetics cannot manage their condition with the above mentioned, that is when a medical professional will either diagnose and put that individual on insulin or other treatments.
Weight Gain and Insulin – Can you gain weight from insulin?

Regularly, Diabetic patients experience weight loss prior to starting their therapy that revolves around insulin. How does this happen? This tends to happen when the body is flushing the extra glucose through a person’s urine. This will then cause an individual to feel dehydrated. The weight loss is a result of the excess water that has been lost. So let’s get to weight gain – This occurs when an individual starts to take insulin. The human body will then stock up on fluids to manage the feeling of dehydration. This is when the body is storing excess amounts of fluids. Diabetics who have glucose levels that are not controlled lead to larger appetites. Therefore causing a diabetic to feel like he or she is starving/hungry. Should the body feel like it is having hot flashes/overheating after starting insulin medications, please do not hesitate to talk to your primary physician regarding this as this tends to occur. Insulin therapy helps manage high levels of glucose in the blood. Therefore the excess glucose in the blood is stored for energy. As the glucose was not being flushed through urine this could cause an individual to gain weight.

Many individuals associate gaining weight with insulin therapy. Which results in diabetics reducing the amount of insulin they take to help them lose weight. When you start taking insulin therapy and you remain consuming the same amount of foods that you used to take, your body will gain weight. When taking insulin you should not reduce your insulin dose unless the doctor has advised you to. Regarding your food intake, look into healthy diets or foods for diabetics. Talk to a nutritionist or your doctor. You can even talk to one of our Pharmacists. Yes, it is possible to reduce weight when you reduce your insulin doses. However, you risk your blood glucose which can cause you long term health problems. Should you end up returning to your regular insulin dosage after having reduced it, the weight that you lose may come back and cause you to regain what you lost or add additional pounds. Understand that changing your insulin dose to reduce weight can lead to long term health problems such as heart disease. Should your primary physician have prescribed you insulin there is a reason for that. Do not adjust your dosage without informing your doctor. Eliminate unnecessary complications and problems.
