How it Works

Finding the Right Dose for You

How Does My Doctor Decide My Dose?

Your doctor will base your dose on three things: your testing results, your blood sugar goals number, and what meets your needs best. Your doctor may start with a lower dosage and then increase it over time as needed. They will also review other factors such as lifestyle changes or any other medications that could affect how much insulin you need each day.

To keep track of how much insulin you are taking, it’s helpful to keep a log or chart that shows what dosage was taken when and what effect it had on your glucose levels. This can be very useful in helping both you and your doctor adjust the dosage as needed with each test result.

Storage Instruction

Store unused Lantus vials in the refrigerator between 36?F to 46?F (2?C to 8?C). It is important to store insulin at the right temperature, as temperatures below or above recommended levels can cause the medication to become ineffective. For optimal performance of the medication, store your Lantus in a separate space of your refrigerator, away from food and beverages since these can expose the insulin to extreme temperatures. If a sudden temperature change occurs inside the refrigerator due to cooling or defrosting, take out all medications and check their temperature.

In-use (opened) Lantus vials should be stored either in a refrigerator or at room temperature that does not exceed 86?F (30?C). Note that if you are using an opened vial, it should not be stored for more than 28 days even if there is still some insulin left in it. The expiration timeline applies exactly to 28 days so make sure to dispose of it after this time period has passed.

To ensure that your insulin doesn’t get exposed to extreme temperatures when placed outside of a refrigerator, keep it away from direct heat and light sources as these can significantly impact its properties. Additionally, make sure that there isn’t any moisture present in your insulin storage container since this can also negatively affect its performance over time.

If you notice that your Lantus vial has been frozen or overheated, discard it immediately as it is no longer safe for use. Do not attempt to use frozen or overheated insulin vials as doing so will render them ineffective and put your health at risk. Be mindful of how long is your medication stored outside of its proper conditions and always make sure you are following storage instructions carefully so you can ensure the best safety and efficacy results with Lantus.
