OVERVIEW
INOVELON is an epilepsy medication used to treat people with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a rare kind of epilepsy that most commonly affects children but can also affect adults. One of the most severe kinds of epilepsy in children is Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Multiple types of seizures (fits), aberrant electrical activity in the brain, learning difficulties, and behavioural disorders are among the symptoms. Inovelon is a supplement to other anti-epileptic drugs.
USES
Inovelon is an epilepsy medicine used to treat patients aged one year or older who have Lennox- Gastaut syndrome, a rare type of epilepsy that usually affects children but which can continue into adulthood. Lennox-Gastaut syndrome is one of the most severe forms of epilepsy in children.
HOW DOES INOVELON WORK?
The active ingredient of INOVELON, rufinamide, works by binding to specific channels on brain cells that control electrical activity (sodium channels). Rufinamide binds to the channels and inhibits them from transitioning from an inactive to an active state. This reduces the activity of brain cells and stops the spread of aberrant electrical activity throughout the brain. A seizure is less likely to develop as a result of this.
SIDE EFFECTS
The most common side effects with Inovelon (seen in more than 1 in 10 patients) are sleepiness, headache, dizziness, vomiting, and tiredness. For the full list of side effects of Inovelon, see the package leaflet.
Inovelon must not be used in patients who are hypersensitive (allergic) to rufinamide, triazole derivatives (such as some medicines used to treat fungal infections) or any of the other ingredients.

Do not store above 30°C.
