DESCRIPTIONS

WHAT IS NORVASC?

Norvasc (amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker that enhances blood flow by dilating (widening) blood vessels.
Norvasc is a drug that is used to treat angina (chest discomfort) and other symptoms of coronary artery disease.

USES

Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or in combination with other drugs. Lowering high blood pressure aids in the prevention of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney disorders. Amlodipine belongs to the calcium channel blocker class of medicines. It works by relaxing blood arteries, allowing blood to flow more freely. Amlodipine is also used to treat and prevent certain types of chest discomfort (angina). It may improve your capacity to exercise and reduce the frequency of angina attacks. It should not be used to treat acute bouts of chest discomfort. As instructed by your doctor, use additional drugs (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to treat bouts of chest discomfort.
